German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz announced his intention to acquire additional Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems from the United States to transfer to Ukraine.
“We are ready to purchase additional Patriot systems from the United States for the transfer of Ukraine. Foreign Minister Johann Vadiful and Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius closely interact with our partners on this issue,” Mertz said, speaking at a joint conference to restore Ukraine held in Rome.
Mertz said that he discussed this initiative with US President Donald Trump and expressed hope for a positive decision, but the final consent has not yet been received.
Chancellor confirmed the adherence to the support of Ukraine
Without specifying what number of complexes we are talking about, Mertz emphasized that Germany would continue to support Kyiv in the future.
“We will not give up,” he emphasized.
In addition, the German leader called on Trump not to leave Europe.
“Stay with us and the Europeans. We are on the same side. We strive for a stable political order in this world,” Mertz noted.
Chancellor also urged Slovakia not to prevent the approval of the 18th package of sanctions of the European Union against Russia.
