Germany Plans To Purchase More Than 600 Skyranger 30 Air Defense Systems

Germany plans to purchase more than 600 mobile short-range air defense systems “Skyranger 30” to strengthen defense against unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This was reported by the German media, citing sources in the Ministry of Defense.

According to information, the German government intends to order more than 600 Skyranger 30 from the defense contractor Rheinmetall by the end of the year.

It is noted that the total order amount will exceed 9 billion euros.

A representative of Rheinmetall said that due to the orders a significant increase in Skyranger production is expected. The company, according to him, sets a goal of producing 200 units per year.

Meanwhile, the press secretary of the German Ministry of Defense, Kenneth Harms, noted that the prototype of the “Skyranger” system will be tested before the end of the year.

The German army intends to close the gap in defense created after the removal of the Gepard anti-aircraft tank from service precisely by “Skyranger”.

It is indicated that the “Skyranger” system is capable of repelling UAV attacks, and can also be used against helicopters and precision guided munitions.
