Google will pave new Internet cable along bottom of Pacific Ocean

Google plans to lay a new ocean Internet cable, which will first connect South America and the Asia-Pacific region through the Pacific Ocean.

According to the press service of the American Transnational Corporation, an underwater cable route, the length of which is almost 15 thousand kilometers, will connect Chile, French Polynesia and Australia.

The project was named Humboldt, probably in honor of the geographer Alexander von Humboldt. After commissioning, Humboldt will increase the reliability and stability of digital communication in the Pacific region, said Google.

A direct fiber-optic connection between South America and the Asia-Pacific region is the purpose of the Chile government since 2016, and Google has been cooperating to translate this idea into reality, follows from the message.

Chile is a leader in the introduction of the latest generation networks and the government is actively working to create conditions for the further receipt of new investments in this sphere, said Juan Carlos Mugnos, Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Chile.

According to the head of the department, the interest of companies such as Google shows that Chile is doing the right thing.

The country uses its potential to ensure growth, which will help us improve the well -being and quality of people’s life, the minister said.

The project is carried out in conjunction with the Chilean State Infrastructure Foundation Desarrollo Pais and the Department of Post and Telecommunications of French Polynesia (OPT). They want to install the cable by 2026.
