Hakan Fidan: Azerbaijan is free to make any decision on his sovereign lands

The Foreign Minister of Turkey Hakan Fidan said that Azerbaijan is free to accept on his sovereign lands, which also includes the Lachenian road on the border with Armenia, any decision that considers necessary.

This was the head of the Turkish Foreign Ministry at a joint press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jahun Bayramov in Ankara.

“Lachinsky road is the territory of Azerbaijan. Baku is free to make any decision that considers necessary. This is the sovereign right of Azerbaijan,” he said.

Fidan called the unreasonable criticism of Baku regarding the situation around the Lachinsky corridor. The Minister recalled that the Azerbaijani side ensured the free passage of the Armenian population on the border of the two countries for medical purposes.

“Alternative routes for the transportation of goods in large volumes were also proposed. Given all this, we consider criticism to Azerbaijan unfounded,” Fidan said.

Fidan noted that the path to regional stability lies through a comprehensive peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Of great importance here is the opening of the Zangezur corridor, the minister said.

“The power of Turkey is Azerbaijan, the power of Azerbaijan is Turkey,” he said.

Fidan also affected the issue of normalizing relations between Ankara and Yerevan. The minister recalled that the diplomatic municipality between the two countries was frozen in connection with the occupation of Armenia of Azerbaijani territories.

According to him, although the occupation has actually ended, negotiations on a peace agreement and the demarcation of the borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia are currently ongoing. “Turkey carefully monitors the development of events. The position of Turkey is as follows, the Turkish president after the Turkish President (Recep Tayyip) Erdogan said, relations will be normalized after all the agreements between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Fidan said.

The minister emphasized that the normalization of relations contributes to the development of the economy and ensure stability in the region.

Speaking about the ongoing acts of the desecration of the science of the Book of the Book – the Koran in Stockholm and Copenhagen, Fidan said that Sweden and Denmark have already begun to realize the negative consequences of these provocative actions.

“We continue negotiations regarding incidents with the burning of the Qur’an. We are in coordination with Islamic countries,” he said.

Fidan called the joint efforts of the countries of the organization of Islamic cooperation (OIS) in this direction. The Minister recalled that today a meeting of the Foreign Ministry of the OIS will be held in a video conference mode dedicated to incidents with the burning of the Qur’an in Scandinavian countries.

“The seriousness of this issue is also understood by the opposite side. Denmark and Sweden have already begun to realize the negative consequences of these provocations,” Fidan said.
