Hakan Fidan: Delegations Of Ukraine And Russia Agreed To Continue Preparations For Meeting At Leaders Level

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan spoke about a tripartite meeting of Turkey-Russia-Ukraine, held by Turkey in Istanbul: “During the negotiations held in a constructive atmosphere, the parties moved a step forward in resolving issues agreed on the first meeting.”

Minister Fidan posted the publication on the social network X message about the tripartite meeting of Türkiye-Russia-Ukraine in Istanbul in order to stop the Russian-Ukrainian war.

“During the negotiations that took place in the constructive atmosphere, the parties moved one step forward in resolving the issues that were agreed at the first meeting. The parties agreed on new categories and more exchanges in the framework of humanitarian exchange,” he said.

The Foreign Minister of Turkey added that the parties exchanged the memorandum reflecting their views on the ceasefire and the world, and found it appropriate to start working on these texts at the technical level in the coming days.

The delegations of Ukraine and Russia also agreed to continue preparations for the meeting at the Leaders level.

“during negotiations formed in accordance with the common will of our leaders, it pleases the approach focused on the result that the parties demonstrate to put an end to the losses caused by the war. I would like to thank both countries for confidence in this historical process,” summed up Hakan Fidan.

Trilateral meeting of Türkiye-Russia-Ukraine

In Istanbul, a tripartite meeting of Türkiye-Russia-Ukraine, organized by Turkey, ended in order to stop the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Following the meeting, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that in the negotiations in Istanbul, an agreement was reached with Russia on the new exchange of prisoners.

Russian media reported that Russia offered Ukraine two options for a ceasefire in the memorandum, which it introduced to Ukraine at negotiations in Istanbul.

Türkiye, which in May gathered delegations of the Russian Federation and Ukraine at the same table three years later, on June 2 organized negotiations in Istanbul.

The Russian delegation was presented by the assistant to the president Vladimir Medinsky. The Ukrainian side was led by Minister of Defense Rustem Umarov. The meeting was held in a closed format. It is expected that the parties will make statements based on the results of negotiations.

The first round of negotiations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine took place on May 16 in the residence of Dolmabakhche in Istanbul.

According to the results of the first meeting, the parties agreed to conduct a large -scale exchange of prisoners according to the formula “1000 by 1000”, to imagine in detail their views on a possible ceasefire, and then continue negotiations.

Kyiv and Moscow reported that the exchange of prisoners, agreed in Istanbul, was completed on May 25.
