Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will take part in an informal meeting of the foreign ministers of the European Union (EU).
According to sources in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fidan on May 8 will meet with the Supreme EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kayya Kallas and foreign ministers of the EU member countries and candidate countries and potential candidates in Warsaw. >
Minister Fidan took part in an event organized on the occasion of an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels on August 29, 2024. This invitation was regarded as an EU attempt to revive relations with Turkey.
The meeting that will be held in Warsaw is important from the point of view of strengthening the dialogue channels between Turkey and the EU and the adoption of specific steps in bilateral relations, including the process of Turkey’s entry into the EU.
The meeting will be held on the current challenges of European foreign policy and security policy, in particular, about increasing resistance to hybrid threats.
It is expected that Minister Fidan will emphasize the importance of strategic cooperation between NATO and the EU for the security of Europe. Türkiye and the EU should strengthen coordination and cooperation against hybrid threats and improve the exchange of information.
Fidan will also note that terrorism undermines international security, causing hybrid threats, that the efforts of Turkey in the fight against terrorism also protect the stability of the general geography. Türkiye expects concrete and significant support from its allies and partners in this context. EU initiatives to increase the potential of the defense industry of Europe require the participation of other partners who are not part of the EU, especially Turkey, with its powerful infrastructure of the defense industry and military experience.
The meeting will also be announced by Turkey’s expectations regarding the fact that the EU should take specific steps to strengthen relations between Turkey and the EU on a sustainable and predictable basis.
Within this framework, it will be noted that the continuation of the mechanisms of structural dialogue, the modernization of the Customs Union and trade relations in accordance with the needs of the day, as well as visa issues are one of the priorities.
Minister Fidan will also hold a number of bilateral meetings.
