The Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei instructed the security authorities and the courts of the explosion in the port of Bender-Abbas in the south of the country and find out if there was intent or negligence.
In a special handling, Khamenei expressed condolences to the families of the dead and wished the speedy recovery to the victims. He emphasized that the authorities should consider their duty to prevent such tragedies, paying special attention to the probability of sabotage.
“The police and the judicial authorities must conduct a thorough investigation to establish whether the negligence or malicious intent was the reason for what happened,” said the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.
The incident occurred on Saturday around noon in the port of Bender-Abbas on the coast of the Persian Gulf. As a result of the explosion of several containers, 40 people died, more than 1000 were injured. The published pictures shows that part of the harbor is seriously damaged.
The causes of the explosion have not yet been officially established. The Iranian authorities said that at the moment they have no evidence of the version of sabotage.
