Head Of Azerbaijani Defense Ministry Visited Turkish Contingent And Command Of EU Forces In BiH

The Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, as part of his visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, visited the command of the European Union Forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as the Turkish contingent. The press service of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported this on Wednesday, November 12.

At the Butmir military base, after the official welcoming ceremony, Colonel General Hasanov held talks with the Commander of the EU Forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Major General Florin-Marian Barbu.

The Azerbaijani delegation was provided with detailed information about the activities of the command. The successful cooperation of Baku within the framework of the Partnership for Peace program and the Concept of Operational Capabilities was especially noted. The parties also discussed a number of other issues of mutual interest.

During a separate meeting with the head of the Turkish contingent, Colonel Mustafa Çetin Çelik, the Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan expressed deep condolences in connection with the tragic death of Turkish military personnel.

On November 11, a C-130 military transport plane en route from Azerbaijan to Turkey crashed on the Georgian-Azerbaijani border.

Meeting with Zeljka Cvijanovic

Azerbaijan Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov also met with member of the Presidium of Bosnia and Herzegovina Zeljka Cvijanovic. A thorough exchange of views took place on a number of issues of mutual interest.

The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Bosnia and Herzegovina Vilayat Guliyev.

The Minister of Defense and the delegation he led visited the memorial complex installed in the Friendship Park in memory of the victims of the genocide in Khojaly and Srebrenica, where he laid a wreath in front of the complex.
