Head of British counterintelligence: “This is strongest blow to Russian intelligence”

During the Russian war against Ukraine on the Russian intelligence network abroad, the most powerful blow was inflicted in modern history. BBC writes that the head of the British counterintelligence Mi-5 Ken McCallum said so, who at the same time noted that Britain should be prepared for aggression from Russia for many years.

In the annual report on the threats that are facing the UK, the head of counterintelligence said that more than 600 employees of Russian embassies were expelled around the world, of which, according to him, more than 400 were most likely spies. “This inflicted the strongest strategic blow to Russian intelligence in the foreseeable European history,” McCallum noted.

23 Russian spies that worked under the diplomatic cover were expelled from Great Britain alone, the head of Mi-5 said. In addition, more than a hundred Russians, which Moscow intended to replace the diplomats who have deceived to their homeland, was denied a diplomatic visa for reasons of national security.

“We can’t calm down,” added the chief of the British counterintelligence, “we must be prepared for the open or hidden aggression of Russia against Great Britain in the coming years.”

According to the head of the British counterintelligence, Russia will continue to constitute for Britain both a secret threat in the person of spies and cyber attacks, as well as obvious – in the form of an intentional increase in energy prices and purposeful misinformation of the population.
