Head of European diplomacy compared with catastrophe situation in Afghanistan

Recent events in Afghanistan have become a catastrophe for confidence in the West in the world, Western intelligence could not foresee this, said the Supreme Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel.

Speaking at an unscheduled meeting of the European Parliament Committees on Foreign Affairs and on Development, Borrel stated that the development of the situation was unexpected and for the “Taliban” movement.

“is a catastrophe and a nightmare for the Afghan people and for confidence in the West in the world. Where our intelligence were not able to envisage. I am confident that even the Taliban could not foresee this,” he said, reports TASS.

At the same time, Borrel stated that the European Union should not allow Russia and China to establish control over the situation in Afghanistan and become the main sponsors of Kabul.

In turn, the head of the European Parliament Committee on Development Thomas Tobe said that up to 18 million people need help in Afghanistan, 4 million became refugees.
