Head of General Staff of Armenia refused to talk about death of soldiers in fire

Head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia, Edward Asryan, during a visit to the Military Pantheon “Erablur” left unanswered questions of journalists in connection with the death of 15 military personnel in a fire in a military unit.

Journalists approached Asryan, who was heading for the memorial as part of the events on the occasion of the Armenian Army Day. They asked him if he considered himself guilty of the death of 15 military personnel in the military unit.

“You are not a judge for me that you are asking such questions,” Asryan said, demanding to free his way, and did not answer questions. “If there are questions, then contact the press secretary,” he added.

On the night of January 19, a fire occurred in one of the houses in the Garkunik region of Armenia, which housed the engineering-saperial company of the Armed Forces of the Republic. 15 troops were killed in the fire. The reason for the tragedy, the Armenian prosecutor’s office called the careless handling of gasoline in the room when one of the officers tried to melt the stove with it. A criminal case has been opened. The President of Armenia fired the commander of the Second Army Corps. Several officials of the Republic of Armed Forces were also dismissed.
