Head of German special services: Russian intelligence raised activity in Germany

Head of the Federal Office for the Protection of the FRG Constitution (performs the functions of counterintelligence) Thomas Haldenwang argues that the activity of Russian intelligence in the Federal Republic reached the level of the Cold War, transfers TASS.

“We notice that Russia has significantly increased its activity,” he argued in the Welt Am Sonntag newspaper published on Sunday. “Now the level we have already knew so far only by the time of the Cold War,” said Haldenwang. The head of the German counterintelligence believes that Moscow’s methods allegedly “are all rougher, and funds are increasingly cruel.” Haldenwang recalled the murder of a Georgian citizen in Berlin in 2019. The German side considers the Russian Federation involved in what happened despite the fact that Russia repeatedly denied it.

Spyage accusations against Russia often sound in Germany. At the same time, specific evidence is not given.

Haldenwang also pointed out that he considers the most serious threat to democracy and safety of Germany, first of all, right extremism. According to him, the special services of the Federal Republic of Germany worries that radicals spread their promotion of their views on the Internet.
