The chairman of the Iranian atomic energy organization Mohammed Islam confirmed that the United States purchases heavy water produced by Iran and used in nuclear reactors.
He stated this during the speech at the event in Tehran, the official Iranian Information Agency Irna.

According to him, Tehran’s nuclear program is based on an agreement on security inspections with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and an agreement on non -proliferation of nuclear weapons. Islam noted that Iran continues to cooperate with the Magate on this basis.
He said that the Iranian side submitted an application for two places to the agency, to which the IAEA requested permission in connection with suspicions of the implementation of nuclear activities. Islam expressed the hope that this issue will be settled.
Islam also affected the statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Iran Hussein Amir Abdollahiyan on the purchase of US heavy water, used in nuclear reactors. “We officially sell our heavy water. The United States bought it once. Today there are requests for its acquisition from other countries. Our strategy is to process heavy water and use it within the established rules,” he said.

After the conclusion of a nuclear transaction between Iran and the countries of the P5+1 group in July 2015, Iran announced the signing of an agreement with the American company for the sale of 32 tons of heavy water in the United States. However, in the future, no information was provided about whether the agreement was executed or not.
According to a nuclear agreement, Tehran can use heavy water in a heavy -water reactor in Arak, which was reconstructed in accordance with the agreement. At the same time, the Iranian side is obliged to sell excess heavy water or enriched uranium abroad.
Iran said that in the framework of this process he sold Russia 70 tons of heavy water.
The United States unilaterally left the nuclear transaction in 2018 and resumed the introduction of sanctions against Iran. In response, Tehran suspended the fulfillment of his obligations under a nuclear agreement.
At the same time, the Iranian Foreign Minister Abdollahiyan said on December 9 that the United States purchased heavy Iranian -made heavy water used in nuclear reactors through the intermediary, despite American sanctions against Tehran.
“The United States purchases heavy water from Iran through an intermediary. One of the Western officials told me that the highest quality heavy water in the world is produced in Iran,” said Abollahiyan.
