US Secretary of Defense Pit Hegset with praise spoke about the “leading role” of Germany in ensuring the security of Europe and the support of Ukraine in the confrontation with Russia.
During a meeting in the Pentagon with the Minister of Defense of Germany Boris Pistorius, the head of the American defense department noted the effective cooperation of the United States and Germany as part of NATO.
“I believe that together with Germany and in the framework of NATO we reached incredible progress,” the minister said, expressing gratitude for Germany’s commitment to his obligations on military spending and leadership in Europe.
Hegset also emphasized that Germany not only purchases the Patriot missile defense system from the United States, but also fulfills a significant mission in Lithuania using fifth generation fighters.
Pistorus emphasized Germany’s commitment to security obligations
German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius said that Germany, together with European allies, is taking important steps to strengthen the European contribution to NATO in response to a changing situation in the field of security.
“We took the obligation to significantly increase defense investments and achieve a mark of 5% of the gross domestic product by 2035,” Pistorius said.
The head of the department noted that the US contribution remains indispensable for the collective security of Germany and other allies, and emphasized the determination of Europe to take on more responsibility for restraint and defense.
Pistorus added that at a meeting with an American colleague they will discuss issues of continuing German support to Ukraine in her bold struggle for freedom and sovereignty, as well as regional security issues in key regions – in the Middle East and Indo -Pacific region.
