Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of Van and discussed the issues of cooperation within the framework of the Association of Southeast Asian states (ASEAN).
According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, the meeting took place on July 10 in Kuala Lumpur “on the fields” of ministerial events along the ASEAN.
“The parties gave a high assessment of the development of political dialogue and practical interaction between Russia and China against the backdrop of increased turbulence of the global relations system,” the statement said.
It is noted that “the ministers discussed in detail the issues of cooperation within the framework of the ASEAN in the context of activating the activities of individual countries on the creation of narrow-block military-political mechanisms aimed at undermining the asanocentric system for maintaining safety and stability in the Asian-Pacific region (APR)”.
“Russia and China are jointly opposed to the actions and plans for the militarization of the region, including attempts to place military infrastructure there under the NATO standard,” the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
It is reported that the parties exchanged assessments of the situation in resolving a number of regional and international problems, cooperation of the two countries at the venues of the UN, BRICS, SCO, as well as in the Group twenty and APEC.
“Conversation that confirmed the proximity or coincidence of approaches on the issues under discussion, went into a traditionally confidential and constructive manner characteristic of the Russian -Chinese strategic partnership,” the Russian department added.

On the fields of ministerial events, ASEAN Lavrov also met with colleagues from Malaysia, Laos, Sri Lanka, Kingdom of Cambodia and Pakistan.
