Hepatitis of unknown origin spreads through Europe

approximately 95 cases of hepatitis of unknown origin were identified in 15 EU countries, the EURACTIV portal reports with reference to the European Center for Prevention and Control of Diseases.

“At the time of May 5, approximately 95 cases of acute hepatitis of unknown origin in children aged 16 years and younger were recorded in 15 EU countries – the European Economic Zone,” the portal said.

Most of all cases are registered in Italy and Spain – 35 and 22, respectively. In the Netherlands and Denmark, six cases were revealed, in Ireland – less than five. In Portugal and Romania, the number of cases for each country is four, in Belgium – three. In two cases, they recorded in Austria, in Cyprus, France and Norway. In countries such as Germany, Poland, Slovenia, one case is revealed.
