Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, noting that his country has strong geographical and historical ties with Turkey, said that an agreement on water resources management will be signed between the two countries.
Hussein spoke at a press conference held after a meeting with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital Baghdad.
The Iraqi minister noted that there are existing relations between Iraq and Turkey strong historical and geographical ties, as well as relations in the field of trade, economics, energy and other areas, based on common interests.
According to him, he and the Turkish Foreign Minister discussed many issues, primarily the problem of water supply.
“Previously in Ankara, we held a number of large-scale negotiations on water supply issues and reached agreements. These agreements were enshrined in a memorandum of understanding. In a few hours, a historic agreement on water resources management will be signed. This The agreement is a breakthrough in the history of relations between Iraq and Turkey,” he said.

He also touched upon the issue of the terrorist organization laying down its arms PKK and noted the following:
“Iraq strongly supports negotiations between the Turkish government and the PKK. We hope that an agreement will be reached on this issue. There are armed elements associated with the PKK on Iraqi territory. The PKK leadership has announced the dissolution of the organization, during which the armed elements will also be disbanded. We hope that in Makhmour and Sinjar, where PKK members are based, the parties will find a concrete solution to ensure security and stability.”
