Hydyrlyk Tower In Antalya Will Turn Into An Open -air Museum

Work on the project of archaeological excavations and the observation terrace around the Khhydyrlyk tower, which is one of the symbols of Antalya and where important finds were discovered during excavations, came to an end.

According to the statement of the capital’s municipality, during archaeological excavations, which were begun by the decision of the Council for the Protection of Nature in 2020, ancient ruins and structures were discovered in order to turn the Khdyrlyk tower, one of the objects of cultural heritage and historical buildings of Antalya, to the center of tourism attraction.

The Department of Public Work completed restoration and conservation and restoration work in this area, and the architectural developments of the project continue.

Basically, the wooden cladding of the territory on the northern and south sides of the tower, the coating of glass surfaces from which can be observed by ancient ruins, and the installation of transparent glass railing surrounding the territory, so as not to violate the silhouette of the rocks, is completed. Now brigades are applying the last strokes to the territory.

The observation terrace, where artifacts such as the street colonnade of the Roman period will be exhibited, which is believed to extend to the gate of Adrian, a mosaic with inscriptions with figures of dolphins fish, an ice factory and ruins of ancient baths, will become a museum of the city in the open air.

Visitors will be able to consider ruins on the pedestrian path, watching the Mediterranean landscape in the section created on the rocks.

During excavations conducted by archaeologists under the leadership of the Directorate of the Antalya Museum and the Office for the Sun and Supervision of the Monuments, a mosaic with inscriptions, presumably related to the Late Roman period, was discovered in the southeastern part of the tower.
