ICRC a year after first time will be headed by a woman

Swiss diplomat Miriana Spolearych Egger from October next year will be headed by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), replacing the current President of the Humanitarian Organization of Peter Maurera, and will be the first woman who headed this organization for her 160-year history, RIA Novosti reports.

“It is a great honor for me and a big responsibility to be elected president of the organization, which I have long admire in view of its inspirational and vital global mission,” said Spoolerich Egger.

Earlier, Spoolenich Egger worked at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (MID) of Switzerland, now it is held by the Assistant Secretary-General of the UN, heads the Regional Office for Europe and the CIS Development Program (UNDP).
