Ilham Aliyev: Armenians in Karabakh should accept citizenship of Azerbaijan

Armenians living in Karabakh should either accept Azerbaijani citizenship, or look for another place of residence. This was stated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in an interview with the Azerbaijani guest.

“here is complete freedom, all democratic foundations are proposed. This issue must find its solution on the basis of human rights,” said Aliyev.

According to him, Azerbaijan has repeatedly stated that he would not discuss his internal affairs with any country. “Karabakh is our internal business,” the president emphasized.

The head of state added that “the separatists should know that they have two choice: either they will live under the flag of Azerbaijan, or leave.”

Ilham Aliyev pointed out that “in two and a half years who passed since the Second Karabakh war, Armenia, its patrons, as well as the countries supporting it and the forces clearly saw the will, determination, power of” Azerbaijan.

He noted that over these two and a half years in the direction of the Azerbaijani-Armenian state border, as well as in the region, under the control of the Russian peacekeeping forces temporarily placed there, many important events occurred. “We have repeatedly demonstrated that the owners of these lands are we, and we will not allow anyone to host our territory,” the head of state emphasized.

Ilham Aliyev also affected the prospects for signing a peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan. “In connection with the signing of a peace treaty in the position of the Armenian side over the past two years, there have been various zigzags, that is, various changes,” he said.

The head of state noted that in principle, Armenia also agrees with the approach of Azerbaijan, “since there is simply no other option.” “That is why, at meetings in Prague and Sochi in October last year, Armenia officially recognized the territorial integrity, the sovereignty of Azerbaijan. That is, it recognized that the issue of the border between the two countries should be resolved on the basis of the 1991 Alma -Ata declaration,” the Azerbaijani leader explained.
