Ilham Aliyev: Azerbaijan plans to start gas supply to Hungary and Slovakia

Azerbaijan plans to start the supply of natural gas to Hungary and Slovakia by the end of the year. In particular, President Ilham Aliyev said this, at the signing ceremony of the Memorandum on the mutual understanding of the development of cooperation between the operators of Bulgartransgaz gas transport systems, Romania – Transgaz, Hungary – FGSZ, Slovakia – Eustream and the State Oil Company Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in the Tuesday in Sophia .

The memorandum was signed in the presence of the head of the Azerbaijani state Ilham Aliyev and President of Bulgaria Ruman Radev.

The President of Azerbaijan noted that the signed agreements are a very important and timely step towards ensuring energy security.

According to him, the Greece-Bolgaria gas interconnector project made it possible to expand the geography of gas supplies to Europe.

The politician noted that the export of Azerbaijani gas to the EU in 2023 will be almost half of the total exports of the “blue fuel” of the republic.

He recalled that in July last year, a memorandum of understanding on strategic partnership in the field of energy was signed between Azerbaijan and the European Commission. “On the basis of this document, we plan to double our gas supply to the European Union (EU) supply (EU) by 2027. Our goal is to bring gas supply to the EU market to 12 billion cubic meters. This is almost half of our total export, which we plan this year in 24.5 billion cubic meters. Of course, our production and exports will grow. Because we will increase the production at existing gas fields and expect gas production in new deposits in the coming years, ”Aliyev said.
