Ilham Aliyev: France is one of countries continuing neocolonial policy

France is one of the countries that continues neocolonial policy. This was stated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, speaking at the ministerial meeting of the coordination bureau of non -alignment movement on Wednesday in Baku.

Azerbaijani leader called Paris’s attempts to control territories outside Europe, are the “disgusting heritage of the French colonial policy.”

As an example, the Azerbaijani leader brought France’s steps on the Komorian Islands. “France should respect the sovereignty of the Comor islands over Mayott, as well as the rights of the inhabitants of New Caledonia, and other overseas departments and regions,” Ilham Aliyev emphasized.

The head of the Azerbaijani state further announced the significance of the UN reform in the light of the challenges of modernity.

According to him, international organizations, in particular the UN, do not live up to the expectations of mankind.

Azerbaijani leader noted that the current structure of the Security Council (SB) of the UN is a “relic of the past”. “The UN must inevitably be seriously reformed. We advocate the expansion of the SB composition in order to make this organ more representative and geographically fair. I am glad that today the consensus is growing in the world,” he said.

The Head of State expressed the opinion that the composition of the UN Security Council should be more “representative” and “geographically fair.” “I am glad that today the consensus is growing in the world. We believe that the countries holding the post of chairman of the non -alignment movement, the organization of Islamic cooperation and the African Union should have their places in the UN Security Council on a rotational basis with the right of the veto,” stated politician.

In this regard, President Ilham Aliyev called the vital need to more active participation of the non -alignment movement in global processes.

The Head of State noted that being a true defender of the principle of multilateralism and the second largest international institution after the UN, the non -compound movement should find its place in the new rebuilding world order. “We must firmly rely on Bandung principles, loudly declare cases of violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity and intervention in the internal affairs of the states,” the president said.

The President of Azerbaijan also attracted attention to the situation in the South Caucasus.

The Head of State noted that today Azerbaijan is among the world states, with the highest level of the mine threat, which is the result of many years of occupation by Armenia of Azerbaijani lands.

“from November 2020, when they were released from the occupation of the land of Azerbaijan to date, as a result of the explosions of mines and ammunition, they died or were injured up to 300 citizens of our country,” he said.
