Ilham Aliyev raised veil. That’s why Azerbaijan needs Zangesur corridor and road to Iran

“We need new roads for goods coming from Central Asia. The path leading through the Caspian is very attractive from a temporary point of view. At the same time, implementing a common tariff policy, we must achieve more attractiveness of this road in economic terms. I think That the negotiations are also in a positive direction. That is, if we take into account the potential of cargo transportation only from the countries of Central Asia and the goods going there from Europe, you can see that even if we implement and expand all these projects, it will still not be enough. Therefore, the economic efficiency of the Zangezur corridor should not be in doubt for anyone, ”said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in an interview with Azerbaijani television channels.

According to the Azerbaijani president, Baku is currently closely engaged in the expansion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project. Last year, it was already instructed, funds worth more than $ 100 million will be allocated from the budget, some of them have already been allocated. Azerbaijan will bring the throughput of this railway from the current 1 million to 5 million tons. However, according to I. Aliyev, this will not be enough.

President I. Aliyev emphasized that the Russian -Ukrainian war increased the importance of the work carried out – the development of transport corridors passing through Azerbaijan.

The President noted that on the territory of Azerbaijan, all the main works related to both the Middle Corridor and the North-Switch transport corridor: “We believe that only by the North-South corridor through the territory of Azerbaijan can be transported from 15 million to the territory of Azerbaijan 30 million tons of cargo. That is, this is a very large figure. Currently, all the transit capabilities of Azerbaijan make up only a small percentage of this. So the North-South Transport corridor is able to compete with the northern corridor. “
