ILO to advocate for Just Transition at COP27

GENEVA (ILO News) – At the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, the ILO will host a Just Transition Pavilion together with the European Commission.

The COP27 Just Transition Pavilion is a venue for delegates to carry informal consultations on the negotiations, to convene events on various aspects of a just transition, and to promote networking among Parties and non-Party stakeholders.

The Pavilion will feature a Just Transition Knowledge Hub to discuss specific practices, policies and measures for a just transition.

The programme of events organized in the Just Transition Pavilion includes amongst many others, an opening Event at the pavilion taking stock of commitments and initiatives on just transition, the launch Green Jobs for Youth Pact in partnership with UNICEF, European Commission, UNICEF, UNEP, YOUNGO and LinkedIn, the presentation of a new just transition finance tool for banks and investors, and a panel discussion on nature based Solutions and Just Transition with UNEP and International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Just transition is a society-wide approach to climate change and in the spirit of One UN, this pavilion will present examples of progress, challenges and lessons learned by governments, social partners and other actors around the world on just transition.

Note to COP27 participants: The COP27 Just Transition Pavilion will be located in the Blue Zone of the Sharm El Sheikh International Convention Centre (SHICC). All in-person participants must secure their badge into the Blue Zone as a member of their national delegation or any other official delegation. Some events will be live streamed as well.
