In Ashgabat, they discussed issues of Turkmen-British interaction

The President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdymuhamedov accepted the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, the Commonwealth and Development of Great Britain David Cameron, the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reports.

During the meeting, it was emphasized that in its foreign policy, Turkmenistan adheres to the legal status of constant neutrality, which was twice recognized by special resolutions of the UN, and also carries out wide international cooperation in order to ensure peace, security and sustainable development.

The President thanked the British side for the support of the UN Initiatives General Assembly of the UN General Assembly. In particular, gratitude was expressed for supporting the recently adopted resolution on the initiative of Turkmenistan “2025 – the International Year of Peace and Trust.”

Touching upon the topic of trade and economic relations, the interlocutors with satisfaction stated the dynamics of the development of bilateral trade, established fruitful cooperation in the field of trade.

In order to further expand economic cooperation, in the opinion of the parties, it is advisable to use the possibilities of the Turkmen-British trade and industrial council. As promising areas of interaction, the oil and gas industry, agriculture and new technologies were indicated.

One of the discussions was the issues of climate change and its harmful effects on human life, which occupy an important place in the international agenda.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan fully supports the proposals of the international community in this direction and conducts specific activities in the field of “green” growth.

Interlocutors also noted the available wide opportunities for the development of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. In this regard, the emphasis was on the activation of bilateral cultural dialogue.

A readiness for partnership with the British side in the field of education, in particular in the field of using targeted programs and promoting English teaching.
