In Belarus, they requested 12 years in prison for Nobel laureate

The state prosecutor requested an Ales Belyatsky for the Laureate of the Nobel Prize of the World 12 years in prison in the case of the Vesna human rights center (Vyesna) at a hearing in the court of the Leninsky district of Minsk.

For other defendants in the case – the lawyer of the “Spring” by Vladimir Labkovich and a member of the board of the organization Valentin Stefanovich – requested 9 and 11 years, respectively, BelTA reports.

For another member of the reign of “Spring” – Dmitry Solovyov, who was abroad, – the state prosecutor asked for 10 years. Soloviev’s documents are considered in court in the order of special work.

In all cases, we are talking about a colony of enhanced regime. In addition, the state prosecutor insists on the payment of a fine in the amount of 5 thousand basic values ​​(1 base value = 37 Belarusian rubles).

The accused is charged with “smuggling” and “repeated violation of the order of organization or mass events” (part 4 of article 228 and part 2 of article 342 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus).

Belyatsky, Stefanovich and Labkovich was detained in July 2021. At the trial, the defendants are in the cage, in handcuffs.

, Belyatsky, during the hearing, emphasized that the pursuit of human rights activists in Belarus was politically motivated. The Nobel laureate recalled that the Ministry of Justice of Belarus refused to “spring” several times in registration. The defendants do not admit their guilt.

According to human rights activists at the end of January, the number of political prisoners in Belarus came close to 1,500.

Belyatsky, already in custody, in 2022 received the Nobel Prize of the World together with the Russian organization Memorial and the Ukrainian “Center for Civil Freedom”.
