In Georgia, they protest against air traffic with Russia

In Georgia, the second day protests on the resumption of direct air traffic with Russia continue. This is reported by local media.

Protesters believe that the decision moves away Georgia from the European Union and puts it under the jeopardy of international sanctions.

It is reported that the participants of the action gathered by the parliament building went to the office of the company Georgian Airways.

The reason for this was the statement by Georgian Airways, according to which the company will operate flights in the direction of Tbilisi-Moscow-Tbilisi with a frequency of 7 times a week.

Russia from May 15, 2023 cancels the visa regime for Georgian citizens, with the exception of persons entering the Russian Federation for the purpose of labor activity.

The corresponding decree of the President of the Russian Federation was published on May 10 on the portal of legal information.

EU authorities called for Georgia not to let Russian aircraft into their territory.

The European Union does not allow its airlines flights to Russia and calls for Georgia, which claims to join the EU, maintain sanctions against the Russian Federation in the field of aviation and not to let Russian aircraft into its territory. This was stated by the representative of the EU foreign policy Peter Stano, commenting on the decision of the Russian Federation to resume air traffic with Georgia.
