In Lebanon, they could not choose president again

In the parliament of Lebanon, according to the results of the 12th voting, none of the presidential candidates gained enough votes.

All 128 deputies of parliament took part in the meeting to elect the successor of the ex-president of Michel Aun, whose term of office expired on October 31, 2022.

Among the candidates for the head of state, the former Minister of Finance Jihad Azur received 59 votes, the leader of the Marada movement Suleiman France – 51 votes, Ziyad Barud – 7 votes, Joseph Aun – 1 vote. Another 10 votes were declared invalid.

Thus, not a single candidate gained 2/3 of the votes necessary for the election by the president.

The speaker of the Nebikh Berry parliament did not comment on the information about when the next, 13th meeting of the parliament is held.

In particular, the candidacy of France is supported by the Hzbollah movement and their allies. At the same time, Jihad Azura is supported by the Ketaib party, the Free Patriots movement and the progressive socialist party.

The first meeting for the election of the president took place on September 29, 2022.
