Roskomnadzor decided to limit access to Instagram’s social network in connection with the dissemination of conscripts for the commission of violent actions against Russians, including military personnel. This is reported on Friday on the Office website.

“On the basis of the requirements of the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation, access to the Instagram social network (belongs to Meta Platforms, Inc.) on the territory of the Russian Federation will be limited,” Roskomnadzor reported.

As noted in the department, information materials containing calls for enforced actions against citizens of the Russian Federation, including military personnel, are applied to the social network.

Previously, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia demanded to recognize Meta Platforms Inc., which includes the Facebook, Instagram Social School, the WhatsApp, an extremist organization and prohibit its activities in the Russian Federation. In addition, due to the presence of signs of crimes provided for by Part 2 of Art. 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Propaganda of Terrorism”) and Part 2 of Art. 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“The initiation of hatred and hostility with the threat of violence”) the General Prosecutor’s Office in the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation aims to address the issue of criminal prosecution.

In the Prosecutor General’s Office reported that, according to the data confirmed by the statement of the press secretary of Meta Platforms Andy Stone from March 11, in the light of events in Ukraine, the company temporarily removes the ban on the residents of a number of countries to place information containing calls for violence against Russian citizens, including servicemen.

Note, on March 4, Roskomnadzor decided to block Facebook as a response to blocking accounts of Russian media.
