In the Southern French Department, the Primorsky Alps (Alpes-Maritimes) on Friday morning there were large-scale power interruptions that covered several cities, including Cannes.
According to the prefecture of the Department, the western part of the region was most seriously affected. Citizens were called to be careful when moving.
According to the operator of the high -voltage lines RTE, about 160 thousand households were left without electricity. Cannes and nearby settlements were especially damaged. Endis, which is responsible for the infrastructure and maintenance of electric networks, is also connected to recovery work. Representatives of RTE and ENEDIS assured that they were doing everything possible to eliminate the accident and apologized for the inconvenience caused.
According to the French media, the reason for the disconnection was the fallen support of the power line. In addition, on Friday night in the Cannes area, a fire occurred at the transformer substation, which weakened the energy network.
Electricity disappeared around 10:00 local time. As a result, traffic lights stopped working, which complicated the traffic.
The 78th Cannes Film Festival also affected the power supply. During the show “Sirat”, the electricity was disabled, and the session had to be interrupted. According to the organizers, the evening closing ceremony of the festival will be held according to the plan thanks to the connection of generators.
