In Uzbekistan “Day of Silence” before presidential election

On Saturday, July 8, in Uzbekistan, the “Day of Silence” came before the presidential election, which are scheduled for July 9, the Uzbek media reported.

According to Uzbek legislation, agitation on the day of elections and the day before the start of voting is not allowed. In addition, these days it is prohibited by the release of the results of polls of public opinion, forecasts of elections, and other studies related to the elections.

This year, four candidates will participate in the elections. The Liberal Democratic Party (node) put forward the current head of state Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Ecological Party – Abdushukura Khamzaeva, the People’s Democratic Party (VDPU) – Ulugbek Inoyatov, the Party “Adolat” – Robakhon Makhmudov.

In May, Mirziyoyev signed a decree on the holding of early elections of the President of Uzbekistan. These will be the first election of the head of state after amendments to the Constitution, which provides for the extension of the term of powers of the President from 5 to 7 years. The election results should be announced until July 19.
