In Yerevan, they stated that authorities can remove embargo on Turkish goods

Armenian authorities on Thursday can make a final decision in connection with the extension or cancellation of the embargo on Turkish goods, said Armenian Economy Minister Vaan Kerobyan.

Kerobyan reminded that the decision on the introduction of an embargo on Turkish goods was made on the basis of political reasons in October 2020. Kerobyan believes that the decision on removal will also be due to politics: “In politically, the processes go on a positive scenario. From this point of view, the validity of the prohibition extension is weakened.”

At the same time, Kerobyan noted that the Turkish Lira decreased in relation to the dollar, so the Turkish goods fell chefed, which increased risks for Armenian manufacturers. “There is no consensus in the government, but since people involved in the negotiation process better own a common picture, the final decision will be made tomorrow as a result of consultations. We will have a solution that may be in the form of a lack of solution, that is, in the form of a ban”, – he said.

Kerobyan reported that during the year the ministry studied the influence of this ban on the economy of Armenia and recorded both very positive and extremely negative influences. Among negative influences, he noted the influence of inflation embargo.
