Inflation In Eurozone In May Slowed Down To 1.9% – Eurostat

An annual inflation rate in the euro zone in May decreased to 1.9%. This was reported by the European Statistical Bureau (Eurostat), which published inflation data in the eurozone and the European Union (EU) for May.

According to the report, the annual consumer price index (IPC), which amounted to 2.2 %in April, decreased to 1.9 %in May. At the same time, in the monthly calculus of the IPC, he remained unchanged.

Analysts forecasts coincided with actual data – it was expected that inflation in annual terms would be 1.9 %.

Basic inflation (excluding energy prices and food) in the eurozone in May amounted to 2.3 % in annual calculus and 0 % in monthly.

Among the main components of inflation in the eurozone, the greatest contribution to annual terms came to the service sector – 1.47 %. The following are food, alcohol and tobacco (0.62%), non -energy industrial goods (0.16%) and energy, which showed negative dynamics – minus 0.34%.

In the whole EU, annual inflation decreased from 2.4 % in April to 2.2 % in May.

The level of annual inflation in May amounted to 2.1 % in Germany, 0.6 % in France, 1.7 % in Italy and 2 % in Spain.

The European Central Bank (ECB) still adheres to the goal of holding inflation at about 2 % in the medium term.
