International Federation of Journalists condemned court’s decision on extradition of Assange

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) strongly opposes the decision of the British court in the case of the extradition of Assange. This was stated by the representative of the organization in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

“The International Federation of Journalists strongly condemns and opposes the decision of the UK Supreme Court, which has unlocked the possibility of extradition of Assange in the United States, again calls on American President Joe Bayden to stop the long-term politically motivated persecution of Julian Assange and remove all the accusations from him,” he said.

Previously, the Court of Appeal of London allowed the extradition from the UK founder of WikiLeaks Julian Assange in the USA.

Recall, in January 2021, the Westminster Magistrate Court refused the US in the issuance of Assange. The court motivated his decision to fears for the mental health of the convict. Later, the US Department of Justice filed an appeal to this decision, insisting on the extradition of the founder of WikiLeaks. Now Assange is contained in the London Prison Belmarsh. In the United States, 18 criminal charges were nominated against him, according to which he faces up to 175 years in prison.

The US Ministry of Justice accuses the founder of WikiLeaks in collusion with the ex-informant of this organization Chelsea Manning with the goal of hacking nets of government computers to distribute secret military documents. Later the United States’s judicial authorities announced the decision to present additional charges to the founder of WikiLeaks at another 17 points.
