Iran and Russia launch their own banking system

Representatives of the central banks of Russia and Iran signed a memorandum of the creation of a banking system similar to SWIFT on January 29, Iranian media reported.

The representative of the Central Bank of Iran Mokhsen Karimi said that now financial messengers of banks of both countries will be interconnected. Banks will now be able to exchange all standard banking messages, including money transfers.

“In the coming days, given the presence of the technical team of the Central Bank of Russia in Tehran, the connections between all Iranian and Russian banks will be established through these messages,” he said.

Karimi added that Iran’s banks will also gain access to lightweight financial exchanges with banks from 13 countries.
