Iran Executed Culprit Of Attack On Azerbaijan Embassy In Tehran

In Iran, they carried out a death sentence against a person who made an armed attack on the Azerbaijan Embassy in Tehran in 2023.

As the official website of the judicial authorities of Iran Mizanonline reports, the sentence was carried out in the morning.

The press secretary of the country’s judicial branch, Asgar Jahangir, said that the death sentence, issued on January 22, 2025, was previously approved by the Supreme Court.

The attack occurred on January 27, 2023. As a result of the attack, the head of the embassy security service died, two more guards were injured.

During the interrogation, the suspect said that he had attacked due to “personal problems with his wife.” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev called the attack a terrorist act.

After the attack, January 29, 2023, Azerbaijan suspended the activities of the Tehran embassy and withdrew all the staff in Baku. In July 2024, the Azerbaijan Embassy in Tehran resumed its activities.
