Iran once again condemned war of Russia in Ukraine

Foreign Minister Iran Hossain Amir Abdollahian in an interview with the Italian newspaper La Republica said that Tehran understands the motives of the Russian-Ukrainian war, but is an opponent of a military decision of this conflict.

“From the very beginning, we clearly announced our position regarding the war in Ukraine: Iran against Russia’s attack on Ukraine. With the beginning of the conflict, we tried to stop the war and start negotiations with the parties. I myself contacted the foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleboy and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. We are sure that the path of resolving the conflict in Ukraine is not a military, but peaceful, ”said the head of the foreign policy of Iran.

Abdollahian added that during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Iran, the parties will touch not only the Syrian conflict, but also the Ukrainian question.

“For the first time in Tehran, the Astaninsky negotiation format will be in full -time. Such important issues as the return of the Syrian refugees to their country, sanctions against Syria and possible military operations of Turkey in border areas will be discussed. In turn, President Raisi in Turkmenistan voiced the position Iran in relation to the war in Ukraine. Although we understand the roots of the conflict, Iran is still against war. We will continue to end fire in Ukraine during Putin’s visit to Tehran.

Iran’s Foreign Minister also answered the words of the US National Security Advisor Jack Sullivan that Tehran was going to sell drones that can deliver missile strikes.

“We have various types of cooperation with Russia, including in the defense sector. But in this matter we do not help any of the parties involved in the war. I think that the current problem of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict lies in the one that weapons manufacturers in the West, including in the United States, are trying to sell their products. We will avoid any actions leading to the escalation of tension and try to stop the war, ”concluded Abdollahian.
