Iranian Foreign Ministry: SCO Anti-terrorism Exercises Will Strengthen Regional Security

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi announced the start of joint anti-terrorism exercises of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

As IRNA reported on Tuesday, December 2, the event is being held with the participation of high-ranking delegations of the member countries of the organization, and the host is the Ground Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Gharibabadi described the conduct of these maneuvers as a strategic step towards “coordinating actions and creating coalitions as part of the formation of a new regional security architecture.”

The diplomat especially noted the experience and capabilities of the Iranian Armed Forces in countering any acts of aggression directed against the security and territorial integrity of the republic. “The Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the main victims of terrorism and has always been at the forefront of the fight against it,” the deputy foreign minister emphasized.

According to the diplomat, Tehran has accumulated significant experience in neutralizing terrorist threats in their various manifestations. The current exercises are intended to become an effective platform for transferring this experience and ensuring synergy of efforts between the SCO member countries in the fight against terrorism.

The results of the exercises will lead “to the elimination of evil from the enemies.”

The joint anti-terrorism exercises of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization “Sahand-Antiterror-2025” are constantly being improved, and their practical results will lead to “the elimination of evil from enemies and the defeat of terrorist groups,” Speaker of the Mejlis Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf said during an open session of parliament.

He recalled that the exercises are being held in East Azerbaijan under the auspices of the Ground Forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) with the participation of member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

The Chairman of Parliament stressed that these exercises are an important signal for hegemonic powers and demonstrates that independent countries have a strong will for self-defense in the face of an unjust world order.
