Italy For Ukraine’s Entry Into European Union

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, who arrived in Rome to participate in the Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine, which starts tomorrow in Italy, met with Italy President Sergio Mattarella in the Quirinal Palace.

According to the Italian press, Mattarell confirmed the support of Ukraine by Italy: “As the NATO summit declaration says, the safety of Ukraine is identical to European safety. This is against those who want to return to the concept of superiority in interstate relations. There are those who want to return us almost a century ago.”

He stated that there is a sincere and decisive friendship between Italy and Ukraine, and added: “Italy decisively supports the Ukrainian people. The more severe shelling of Russia of civilians and civil infrastructure further strengthen our determination to support Ukraine. At the same time, we are looking for all possible ways to put an end to this dramatic process.”

Italian President emphasized that they also support Ukraine’s membership in the EU: “I hope that negotiations (on entry) will begin in the near future.”

President Zelensky thanked Italy, who accepts the conference for the support of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

In the meantime, the Italian press has information that Keith Kellogg, special representative of US President Donald Trump in Ukraine and Russia, who will take part in the Conference on the Restoration of Ukraine, may be present at the meeting of the “volunteers”, which the Prime Minister of Italy Georgia Melony will conduct with Zelensky and other leaders.
