Kanlaon Volcano Erupts On Philippine Island Of Negros

The Kanlaon volcano erupted on the Philippine island of Negros.

As reported by the Philippine News Agency (PNA), citing the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), an ash column rose to a height of about 2 km.

The eruption began on the night of October 24 local time and lasted about three minutes, Phivolcs clarified.

According to the institute, a second alert level has been declared due to the volcanic eruption. Authorities have urged residents in nearby areas to keep windows and doors closed and cover all openings and vents with damp towels or cloths to prevent ash from entering their homes.

The Philippines lies on the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire, a region with high seismic and volcanic activity.
