Kazakhstan has terminated agreement with Russia on mutual convertibility of currencies

Kazakhstan terminates the agreement with Russia on mutual convertibility of tenge and ruble courses.

According to Astana, the agreement signed more than two decades ago has lost its relevance.

At the same time, many in Kazakhstan express concerns about the denunciation of the agreement, noting that almost half of the purchases of Kazakhstan abroad falls on Russian goods.

Russia is traditionally the largest trading partner of Kazakhstan. Its share amounted to about 24% of all foreign trade of Kazakhstan ($ 24.2 billion) in 2021.
