Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Erala Tugzhanov eliminated the renaming of the capital – Nur Sultan – back to Astana, writes the publication ORDA.
“I still do not see any reason for this. I tell you again that there are no grounds yet,” said Tugzhanov.
In January 2022, the inhabitants of Astana launched the collection of signatures for the return of the city of the old name. The initiative, however, did not receive proper support.
