“Knowledge Day” in Karabakh: first school bell rang in Lachina in 32 years

In the city of Lachin in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan, the first school call was rang in 32 years.

The opening ceremony of secondary school No. 2 in Lachina was held on August 25 with the participation of Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev and the first Lady Mehriban Aliyeva.

The first school call was rang after 30 years and in the city of Fizuli.

The new school year began in secondary school No. 1 named after Mirza Ulugbek.

The school is designed for 960 students. It was built by order of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev as a gift on behalf of the Uzbek people.

The school has 40 classrooms, 6 laboratories, 2 rooms of computer science, 5 functional study rooms, an assembly hall with 500 seats, a sports hall, a dining room with 320 seats, a library.

A football field was built on the territory of the school, places were created for relaxation and events, treadmills, arbors, checkpoints, boiler rooms, water tanks, transformer substation.

The official opening ceremony was held on August 23 with the participation of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.

May 18, 1992, the strategically important Lachynsky district was occupied by the armed forces of Armenia. As a result of the occupation, the population of the district was subjected to ethnic cleaning, more than 300 troops and civilians were killed and went missing.

As a result of the occupation, 217 cultural, 101 educational, 142 medical institutions, 462 trading and 30 communications, 133 management and enterprises, 5 music schools, one secondary vocational school, two motor transports, two motor transports were plundered and destroyed. 54 monuments of world and more than 200 monuments of republican significance were subjected to vandalism.

As a result of the Second Karabakh war on December 1, 2020, the Lachinsky district was released from the Armenian occupation.

From August 23, 1993 to November 9, 2020, the city of Fizuli and most of the district were under the Armenian occupation. During this time, Fizuli turned into a ghost city.

On October 17, 2020, during the Second Karabakh war, Fizuli returned to Azerbaijan. After the victory in the 44-day war, Azerbaijan began to large-scale restoration and construction work in territories liberated from occupation, including phizuli.

In July 2023, President Ilham Aliyev established on October 17 as the day of the city of Fizuli and decided to solemnly celebrate it.
