Discussion of projects of memorandums on Ukrainian settlement will be one of the key topics of the new round of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, which is expected to be held in Istanbul. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov, the Russian state media reported on Tuesday, July 22.
“During the negotiations, it is necessary to discuss complex topics, including projects of memorandums for settlement,” he said.
According to the press secretary, before talking about the possibility of meeting at a high or higher level, “there is still a lot to work.”
Peskov expressed the hope that the new round of direct negotiations will take place this week. According to him, the Kremlin will report the exact dates additionally.
The spokesman noted that the achievement of agreements even on issues as exchanges or the return of bodies can already be considered a result. However, according to him, “there is no reason to count on a breakthrough yet.”
Peskov emphasized that Russia intends to achieve on the Ukrainian track “ensuring its interests and fulfilling the tasks.”
The Kremlin representative also accused Western countries of increasing tension.
“We see a line for escalation, including nuclear ones, and formulate the appropriate security tasks,” he said.
Speaking about the position of Azerbaijan on the Ukrainian issue, the Kremlin representative noted the presence of discrepancies. At the same time, Peskov expressed the hope that these disagreements would not become an obstacle to the completion of the cooling period in the relationship between Moscow and Baku.
