Kyrgyzstan stopped search for missing climbers from Russia and Lithuania

EMERCOM of Kyrgyzstan announced the cessation of the search for the disappearance of climbers from Russia and Lithuania.

The press service of the Ministry of Emergencies emphasized that the two-week searches for the missing did not give results.

“taking into account the difficult weather conditions, the continuing gatherings of snow avalanches and threats to the life of rescuers of the Ministry of Emergencies on the ascent route on August 8, a decision was made to return to the base camp and later to the places of constant deployment,” the message said.

The Ministry of Emergencies explained that a group of missing climbers could break off the steep slope and fly down about 1 km. It is almost impossible to get to this section of the route, which is also very dangerous for the life of rescuers, the department said.

On July 28, the press service of the Ministry of Emergencies of Kyrgyzstan reported that rescuers began to search for Russian and Lithuanian climbers who disappeared in the Victory Peak area. The last time the tourist group was in touch on July 19 from a height of about 6,900 meters.
