Latvia can return enhanced border guard with Belarus

Latvia Ministry of Internal Affairs offers next week to restore the enhanced border protection regime with the Republic of Belarus due to an increase in the flow of illegal migrants.

It is planned that the enhanced border protection mode will be valid from March 13 to September 12, 2024, the Baltic media reported.

It is planned to restore the enhanced border protection regime in the Ludzensky Territory, the Kraslavl Territory, the Augshdaugavsky Territory, Daugavpils and the Kaunat volost of the Reseknensky Territory.

In the context of an enhanced regime, the State Police and National Armed Forces provide the necessary support for the state border guard.

Also responsible bodies are vested with various rights, for example, to enter the premises without the permission of the owner to prevent the threat.

Earlier, the head of the State Border Guard (GPO) of Latvia, Guntis Puyats, announced an increase in the flow of migrants who are trying to illegally cross the border from the Republic of Belarus.
