Lavrov: joint work of Caspian countries contributes to security of Eurasian continent

The joint work of the Caspian countries makes a noticeable contribution to ensuring security, stability and sustainable development in the space of the Eurasian continent. This was stated by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting with the Foreign Ministers of the Caspian states – Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

“The deepening of the practical cooperation of the Caspian states is relevant and in a broader plan – I mean in the context of the formation of multipolar world order, strengthening the positions of new centers of world development,” Lavrov noted.

According to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, “cooperation at the Caspian has reached a high level, but additional efforts are required to improve the quality of five-sided interaction, strengthen its international legal foundations.”

“The effectiveness of our work could increase the creation of the Caspian Council, the Forum of Cooperation, Dialogue without any bureaucratic schemes,” said Lavrov.

According to the Russian Minister, work in the framework of the Caspian theme allows you to find key solutions to regional interaction problems.

“It is important that the Caspian theme is priority for all of us, it is regularly discussed by the presidents and heads of government of the Caspian” Five “.” A serious impulse of cooperation in this format was given during the 6th Caspian summit in June last year in Ashgabat and the 2nd Caspian Economic Forum in October last year in Moscow. “Today’s meeting is of a special nature, we, in fact, are launching a new, regular ministerial dialogue that will act as part of the mandate agreed at the Ashgabat summit. This mandate, in particular, involves consideration of the development of five -sided cooperation and improving it formats, the development of coordinated measures to implement the solutions of summits, the preparation of their agenda and final documents, ”he added.

The meeting is attended by the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Russia and Turkmenistan.
