Council of Europe

The IDAHOT + Forum 2022 is taking place in Limassol, Cyprus, on 12-13 May, ahead of the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia on Tuesday 17 May.

Speaking during the discussion War in Ukraine: Challenges to our Common European Values Through the Experiences of LGBTI+ People, Triantafillos Loukarelis, chair of the Steering Committee on Anti-Discrimination, Diversity and Inclusion (CDADI) stressed how the Organisation’s values and principles were more important than ever during the ongoing armed aggression and that full use should be made of tools to combat hate speech, hate crime and discrimination on all grounds, in line with the position of the CDADI. He said the SOGI unit regularly assessed the needs of Ukrainian LGBTI organisations and offered grants to provide emergency shelter in safe areas, relocation abroad, free access to hormone healthcare, psychological, legal and other aid.

Co-organised by Cyprus and the United Kingdom, with the support of the Council of Europe Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) Unit, the Forum’s goal is to strengthen cooperation and understanding of LGBTI+ politics between European governments, international intergovernmental organisations, international civil society, business, academia and other stakeholders.
