Lithuania banned use of cars with Russian license plates

In Lithuania, the use of cars with Russian license plates is prohibited, with the exception of diplomatic cars and cars following in the Kaliningrad region of Russia and back through Lithuania.

The statement of the Customs Department of Lithuania says that from March 11, persons using cars with Russian numbers will be considered violators of the law and be liable in accordance with the Law on Administrative Offenses.

The statement notes that in Lithuania there are about 50 cars with Russian numbers, and the owners of these cars are facing a fine of up to 6 thousand 561 dollars, if they do not leave the country, these cars will be confiscated.

According to this decision, Russian citizens who are heading to the Kaliningrad region of Russia or from it through Lithuania will be exempted from the prohibition if there are relevant documents and provided that transit through Lithuania will not take more than 24 hours.

It is also stated that the ban does not apply to diplomatic cars.

Lithuania banned the entry of cars with Russian license plates in September 2023 on the recommendation of the European Commission.
