Energy safety and independence of Europe requires close transatlantic cooperation, said the President of the Lithuanian Republic of Gitanas Nauceda at the International Concordia summit in New York. This was announced by the press service of the President of Lithuania.
The head of state recalled that the Baltic countries have already completely abandoned the Russian electric power system and turned into the regional energy center.
Naguseda performed during the discussion “Opening a new era: the leadership of the Baltic countries in changing Europe” and emphasized that the energy independence of the region’s countries became the result of the strategic countries planning, diversification, sustainability and regional cooperation.
“Our experience shows how strategic thinking and political will can turn a dangerous dependence into leadership,” he said.
He paid special attention to the role of the Claiped Light Terminal, which today serves five countries and provides the supply of American gas, including to Ukraine. The President recalled that any consumption of Russian energy means means “subsidizing the Kremlin’s war against Ukraine.”
Naguseda also noted Lithuania’s desire to develop renewable energy sources and expressed interest in cooperation with the United States in the field of small modular nuclear reactors.
After the performance, the Lithuanian leader took part in panel discussion with colleagues from colleagues from colleagues from colleagues Latvia and Estonia, which discussed the strengthening of NATO’s eastern flank and coordination of military assistance to Ukraine. According to him, Lithuania annually distinguishes at least 0.25% of GDP for military support of Ukraine and participates in the initiatives of Purl and Patriot.
The president urged to speed up the implementation of NATO plans for the creation of the general air defense system, the “drone wall” and investment in radar and antronx technologies. Baltic and President of Poland conducted a working lunch at which they discussed further steps to strengthen regional security and support of Ukraine.
